Tested! 6 September, 2007

I am sure that I was tested … and hopefully I passed it.

I detest being late for anything. And to avoid being late I always plan way way way ahead, with lots of plans and deadlines. Wednesday night was the first night of our school concert. Being new on the staff, I try to get involved, attend functions and just be visible. I bought tickets for my family and I to go. The time on the tickets stated 18h30 for 19h00 … enough to make me go into planning mode. Wednesday is a busy day for us cos my children have swimming lesssons. The BigBoy is in the last class which ends at 17h00. We practically had one and a half hours to get home, get dresssed and have supper in order to be at the school on time.

I planned it all very well. I will put the DramaQueen in the bath while the BigBoy does his reading. After that I’ll get the BigBoy in the bath (to wash himself) while I dress DramaQueen. Once they dressed, I’ll give them something to eat. While they eating I’ll get into the bath … all went well, until we got home. I DIDN’T HAVE MY HOUSE KEYS and it was a whole half hour before Daddy would get home!!!! Now this is where I go into serious panic mode!!! But guess what  … I DIDN’T.  Instead, I called Daddy and told him my predicament. And while waiting for him to get home, the children started playing with a ball they found in the backyard and I started watering all the plants on my back stoep …

Daddy arrived a half hour later, we adjusted the plan slightly and we were seated in the school hall by 18h45 … no screaming, no shouting and no tears. HALLELUJA … God was in control of the situation and most definately of my “emotions”

Bike Ride With God 11 June, 2007

When I first met Christ
It seemed as though life was rather like a bike ride,
But it was a tandem bike,
And I noticed that Christ
Was in the back helping me pedal.

I don’t know just when it was that
He suggested we change places,
But life has not been the same since.

When I had control, I knew the way,
It was rather boring, but predictable…
It was the shortest distance between two points.

But when He took the lead,
He knew delightful long cuts,
Up mountains, and through rocky places,
At breakneck speeds,
It was all I could do to hang on!
Even though it looked like madness,
He said, “Pedal”

I worried and was anxious and asked,
“Where are you taking me?”
He laughed and didn’t answer,
And I started to learn to trust.

I forgot my boring life
And entered into the adventure.
And when I’d say, “I’m scared,”
He’d lean back and touch my hand.

He took me to people with gifts that I needed.
Gifts of healing, acceptance, and joy.
He said, “Give the gifts away;
They’re extra baggage, too much weight.”

So I did, I gave them to the people we met,
And I found that in giving I received,
And still our burden was light.

I did not trust Him, at first, In control of my life.
I thought He’d wreck it;
But He knows bike secrets,
Knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners,
Knows how to jump to clear high rocks,
Knows how to fly to shorten scary passages.

And I am learning to shut up
and pedal in the strangest places,
And I’m beginning to enjoy the view
And the cool breeze on my face
With my delightful constant companion, Jesus Christ.

And when I’m sure I just can’t do anymore,
He just smiles and says…
“Pedal.”

You major too much on the minor!!! That what Caleb’s school principle said to Daddy and I as we sat in his office for the dreaded meeting that was scheduled a few weeks ago. Well, he didn’t say it in so much words but clear enough for us to hear that! I can imagine my mommy’s comments as she reads this … “ek het julle mos gesê” (but didn’t I say that all along). (more…)

God is real, no matter how you feel. It is
easy to worship God when things are going
great in your life—when he has provided
food, friends, family, health, and happy
situations.

GIVE THEM ALL TO JESUS
(Phil Johnson and Bob Benson, Sr)

Are you tired of chasing pretty rainbows?
Are you tired of spinning round and round?
Wrap up all those shattered dreams of your life
And at the feet of Jesus, lay them down.

Give them all, give them all, give them all to Jesus
Shattered dreams, wounded hearts, and broken toys.
Give them all, give them all, give them all to Jesus
And He will turn your sorrows into joy.

He never said you only see sunshine,
He never said there would be no rain.
He only promised a heart full of singing
About the very thing that once brought pain

ONE DAY AT A TIME, SWEET JESUS
(Marijohn Wilkins / Kris Kristofferson)

I’m only human, I’m just a woman.
Help me believe in what I could be
And all that I am.
Show me the stairway, I have to climb.
Lord for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.

Chorus:
One day at a time sweet Jesus
That’s all I’m asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday’s gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.
