Seperation 5 June, 2008

Homework is causing some form of a.part.heid in our home. Every night of the week. We are a happy family milling around each other until we have to start doing homework. And then we seperate along gender lines. We don’t have much of a choice …

The Drama Queen is now in Grade R and is now learning to read. It takes time and many patience (can you say it like that?) But her concentration span is very jumpy. Everything and anyone distracts her. I am in charge of helping her with her reading. CJ on the ohter hand is now in Gr 2 and gets tons and more tons of homework. His homework has to be done systematically so that you don’t leave or forget something. DH is in charge of helping CJ with his homework.

We have a huge dining room suite. Seats 10 people at one time. We tried sitting around the table, each parent with his “student” but it didn’t work … CJ tries to correct the Drama Queen when she makes a mistake and the Drama Queen wants to listen to CJ when he does his reading. Do you know how frustrating this whole exercise turns out to be??? Rather tiring, too

Now, Dh and I have agreed to seperate - Drama Queen and I move to the furthermost part of the house - our bedroom. We get on top of the bed, try to be cosy and learn to read. DH and CJ remains in  the Dining Room. At least they get to keep the heater.

Wonder how long we’ll be seperated like this?

Appointments 12 April, 2008

On Friday, 11 April 2008, we all had plans of our own, but never got to it because my father-in-law plans of his own - he had an appointment that he did not tell us about.

I had lesson plans to prepare and prep files to organise. DH had an important workshop to attend the whole day. My mother-in-law had plans to entertain “colleagues” from Holland. DH’s sister had important accounts to work on - the auditors are coming on Monday. DH’s brother and his wife had a graduation ceremony to attend - my brother-in-law’s graduation. None of this happened!

My father-in-law had an appointment he did not tell us about. He knew all about it. Now that we sit and think back on the past few months we realise that he knew about it. He was preparing for a journey and he was trying to warn us about it. We didn’t take heed to his suttle warnings. When we look at our surroundings we realise that he was ready for this appointment. He had prepared it all so meticulous. He was ready to go. We didn’t know about his appointment and as a result we all have to put our plans on hold to make sure everything else is closed off and settled in dignity.

On Friday, 11 April 2008, at 06h1, my father-in-law went to be with the Lord. Thank goodness he was ready for this journey. We will all miss him dearly.

I will be on a bloggy break for a few days - keep me and the rest of this family in prayer. Even though we know he has accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour , the loss still great and the hurt is very real!

Today its my mom’s birthday! She also turns 60!!! We had a lovely weekend celebrating it. I still have to post the pictures.

Mommy, we wish all that is good and beautiful today and everyday. May God richly bless you and grant you the desires of your heart. I pray that this day will be filled with joy and many good wishes. May it also be the beginning of many good things to come. You special and loved very much. You are God’s love in action. You look with your heart and feel with your eyes. You are the bank where we as children can deposit all our hurt and worries. You are the cement that keeps the family together.

With all our love and appreciation
Lenny, Adele, Caleb and Chloe

A Mother’s Love by Helen Steiner Rice

A Mother’s love is something
that no on can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God’s tender guiding hand.
