Today life is so different for our children then to when I was a child. Sitting at the pool yesterday afternoon watching them have fun with each other made me realise just that. (more…)

I am missing my brother. I spent three uninterrupted weeks with him and for the first time in all his 33 years did we not once fight or ague or even have anything nasty to say to each other. For the first time in our lives did we bond like brother and sister should. And after all that I left him behind in Sydney Australia and came home to South Africa.
Goodbyes at the airport were sad ones. We tried to prolong our farewells until we couldn’t any longer. At one time we opened my purse, counted out all the Aus money especially the ”small change” (cos we obviously wouldn’t need it again) and went and bought some coffee. It was the best coffee I had in a long time. Nothing special about the coffee, but it’s because I shared the momement with my brother.
I went through the boarding gates with my eyes filled with tears … shame, my poor children; they didn’t understand what was happening!!! I don’t think they have ever seen their mommy’s eyes so red from all the crying. Once I was in the plane, settled down and buckled up I started crying all over again. I cried for the better part of the journey … every movie I watched on that plane made me cry … sad or not, I cried cos something I heard and watched on those movies reminded me of my brother whom I said farewells to … not so long ago.
Today I feel exactly like I did the day I left Sydney … my throat is all lumpy; my heart aches; I miss him so much. Thinking back on my holiday is suppose to make me smile because we had so much fun, but it makes me wanna cry cos I want to be with him and spend more time with him and share more with him
Nox, you seriously need to make a plan to visit SA … sooner than you maybe even planned. The kids miss you, Lenny never stops taking about you. Thank you so much for all the fun we had together. What we shared was special, very special. I will treasure it for the rest of my life. Sydney will always be a special place for me, because you live there and you are happy to live there.
I miss you and I love you!!!!

This is the secong meme that Sandra tagged me with. It was fun doing this one - I hope you enjoy reading it ;-)
1. Favorite memory of your mother:
Mommy would also make birthdays special for all of us in small but special ways. I still remember how she would wake me on the day of my birthday with a gift in her hand
When I was in my final year at school my mom was the one who wrote to all the universities and technikons to get applications forms and calendars for the following study year. When she got all the forms she would fill it out and post them again - I only received all the replies and clearly remember our excitement when I eventually received a positive reply from Technikon Pretoria
I clearly remember the time spent with my mom when we planned my wedding
And then there were the times my children were born. My mom stayed with us for a week on both occassions.
2. Favorite memory of my dad:
Friday nights taking us for ice cream
As we grew older … Life is real and life earnest … these were my dad’s favourite words to us as growing children. (Still is for that matter). My dad is a stern man, no nonsense type (its changing now that he is getting older) But in all of that I could always approach him if I need help and advise. My fondest memories of him are around the dining room table on Sundays - as a family we always lingered around the table long after lunch was served talking and making jokes. I also remember those days when he got a raise or a promotion at work he would always come home with something special to celebrate with his family - sometimes it would just be a barrel of KFC but it meant a whole lot to us. And nowadays it is the time he spends with my kids, actually with all his grandchilren - he has a way of making them know how special they are
3. Favorite memory of your sibling(s):
Playing games and riding our bikes. I have fondest memories of my brother and I at theme parks - we would dare each other to go on the scariest rides
We always got into trouble together and got spankings together - my brother was always of the opinion that his spanking was harder then mine
Games we used to play in the car as we were going on holiday. Bus rides to school everyday; and the long walks we took on the days we missed the bus
4. What one skill would you like to wake up tomorrow and be able to do (though you’d never learned it):
Cook up a 7 course meal without using a recipe book or old cookery ideas
5. Which one of your dreams has come true:
Having my own car and driving it myself
I know alot of ladies who are very frustrated cos they can’t drive!!!
Who shall it tag??? If you reading this post right now then … YOU ARE TAGGED!!! ![]()
