Quiet heroes dot the landscape of our society. They don’t wear ribbons or kiss trophies; they wear spit-up and kiss boo-boos. They don’t make the headlines, but they do sew the hemlines and check the outlines and stand on the sidelines. (more…)

The Mommy Test 1 February, 2007

I got this via email from Dalton  (whom I threatened to ban from my blog …he knows why) and I had to share it with you. It makes me feel particularly good, not sure why. Probably just a mommy thing!!!

love-ya.JPG I was out walking with my 3 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. “Why?” my daughter asked. ”Because it’s been on the ground, you don’t know where it’s been, it’s dirty and probably has germs” I replied. At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, “Mommy,  how do you know all this stuff? You are so smart.” I was thinking quickly. “All moms know this stuff. It’s on the Mommy Test. You have to know it, or they don’t let you be a Mommy.”  We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.

”OH…I get it!” she beamed, “So if you don’t pass the test you have to be the daddy.”  “Exactly” I replied back with a big smile on my face.

So now I also understand why there is a mommy and then there is a daddy …

Today I dedicate this post to the BEST HUBBY & FATHER in the whole wide world - my hubby is having a birthday today.

One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another witholds unduly but comes to poverty. Proverbs 11:24

I am so proud to be married to such a wonderful person. He is sweet, loving and very understanding. He gives of himself unselfishly and always thinks of the next person first before himself. He is very dedicated in everything he does.

He is crazy about his children. He doesn’t always have enough time with the them, but sure makes up for it whenever he can. Our caravan trips are one of those times when he spends every waking moment with them. God has blessed them with a daddy that cares about their everything - in our home daddy is the one that does the bedtime reading!!!

Daddy, today we take this opportunity to tell you once again that we love you, we appreciate you for all the love and joy you bring to our lives. Our prayer is that God should richly bless you and give to you the desire’s of your heart. May today be the beginning of many good things to come. May the love you give to us (and others) be returned to you by the Lord and may the love of God be your soul’s rich reward.

We Love You !!!!!

I would really like to participate in Wordless Wednesday today but … I AM STRUGGLING TO UPLOAD MY PICTURE!!!!! :-( Anyone out there know why this is such a hassle???? I browse, select and upload and drag, but my picture doesn’t appear in the post - what the heck!!!!

Caleb is sick. Last week I read many blogs about people being sick with some sort of bug or another. Is it really possible that these bugs millions miles away can be contagious via the net??? Caleb has been under the weather lately. Sneezing, coughing, complaining about headaches and even vomitting at some stage. He does have a slight fever. This morning he got up complaining about a sore throat. Doctor mommy checked, but I couldn’t see anything wrong - his thoat was not red. Feeling this way bothers Caleb cos he has a concert coming up on Friday and he doesn’t wanna miss it for the world. The school is having a Grandparent’s Day on Friday and all the kids from Junior Primary is having a concert to entertain the grandparents.

Chloe is on top of the world! She is celebrating a birthday on Friday and that is all that matters to her. She has been walking around the house, swinging her hips from side to side, singing at the top her voice “Friday is my birthday”. She is gonna be 4 years old on Friday. I think this is the first time that she really understands what a birthday is all about. And she keeps reminding her brother that on Friday she’s gonna be “big”. I can’t wait to see my baby’s face when she wakes up on Friday morning - I must remember to keep the camera handy!!!

Daddy is currently in “stress valley“.  He has three exams coming up next week. We have decided to cancel all birthday celebrations till after his exams - his birthday is next Sunday. So that leaves mommy to entertain the children all weekend so daddy has time to study. He is a brave man. Not like me … who had decided to cancel all exams … till further notice.

Ziggy’s sterilization operation was a success - she is running around as if she never had the op! My Dad had to cut some of the feathers off of Sala’s wings on Sunday cos she started “flying”. She has been raised to sit on a person’s shoulders and with her wings growing back she realized that she was made to be in the air and not on Caleb’s shoulders - we were worried that she might fly away, so Caleb asked oupa to assist. No the little birdie is a shoulder pet  … much to Caleb’s relief.

Now I need to take another shot at Wordless Wednesday again - if it doesn’t work then that’s too bad!
